On Tuesday 25th of March The Department For Transport successfully amended the Draft Deregulation Bill to include reforms to the Taxi and Private hire industries.Without any formal consultation and the trade awaiting the Law Commission report on Taxi&PHVs , this can only be described as deregulation through the back door.
The Joint Committee on the Draft Deregulation Bill consists of 12 members appointed from both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. It’s purpose is to gather both written and oral evidence for what is proposed legislation. The bill now at the commons report stage, awaits it’s third reading before further scrutiny from the House of Lords.
