RMT gain rank spaces in Redbridge borough

A meeting was held on Friday 20/04/2012 between RMT representatives and Redbridge Highways Manager, Mike Woodward and Parking Enforcement Manager, Michael Jackson.

RMT representatives Alan King and Stephen Barker went to Redbridge Council to discuss ways of improving existing taxi ranks and creating new ranks within the borough.

It was agreed in principle that the taxi rank outside “Faces” nightclub on Cranbrook Road, Gants Hill, could be extended by 3/4 rank spaces. The present rank of 3 spaces is operational after 10pm until 6am. It is proposed that the extra spaces would be created by using the pay and display parking bays after 6.30pm. This proposal would need to go before committee, but there are no problems foreseen and would be recommended by highways. It was proposed that the George Lane, South Woodford rank, be extended northbound up to the zigzag lines of the pedestrian crossing. There was already a proposal in place that pay and display parking be operational until 6.30pm and like Faces, it was agreed that this could become a dual use area. Again this would need to go before a planning committee but no problem were envisaged as it is not a residential area and it would serve the Slug & Lettuce and Lizard Lounge bars.
