RMT GMB&UNITE pressure MPs on Deregulation Bill

MPs  attended a debate in Westminster Hall yesterday(Tuesday 29th) on Taxi/PHV reforms within the government’ Deregulation Bill.

RMT along with GMB & UNITE informed house members and their relevant parliamentary groups of the proposed three clauses, that if implemented would see leisure use of PHVs, license duration extensions and operator sub-contracting.
The tri-union action was taken as all 3 organisations were in agreement that the amendments were contentious and that the consultation time was inadequate.

Although the clauses are in effect already happening in London, if implemented nationally would create a situation where by the proposals would be set  in statue making it increasingly difficult for any action to be taken against the practices. There is concern especially with clause 10. Which is to allow sub-contracting of phv’ to operators outside of primary licensing area (cross boarder hiring).
With the rapid growth of smart phone apps like Uber and TfL’ inertia to act against them, RMT LTDB sees this as back door deregulation.
